GEERS eligibility, application process and online services

Eligibility and how to apply for General Employee Entitlement Scheme (GEERS) assistance.

You should only apply for GEERS assistance if your employer went bankrupt or entered liquidation before 5 December 2012.

If your employer went bankrupt or entered liquidation on or after 5 December 2012, you may be eligible for assistance under the Fair Entitlements Guarantee (FEG).

You may be eligible for GEERS assistance if:

  • your employer has entered liquidation or bankruptcy, and
  • the termination of your employment was linked to insolvency, and
  • you have eligible outstanding employee entitlements, and
  • there are no other funds are available to cover your outstanding employee entitlements, and
  • you are entitled to reside permanently in Australia, and
  • you lodge your claim for GEERS in the required timeframe, and
  • you provide relevant information in the required timeframes.

How to apply for GEERS assistance

The preferred way to lodge your claim for GEERS assistance is online at GEERS Online Services.

GEERS Online Services is easy to use and will ensure that the department receives your claim within 24 hours of lodgement.

If it is not possible to use GEERS Online Services, the GEERS Claim Form can be sent to the department by email, post or fax.

GEERS Online Services

GEERS Online Services is a one-stop-shop for lodgement of GEERS claims and managing communication with individuals on the status of their claims.

GEERS Online Services is available regardless of whether a claim is submitted online, by post, fax or email. The following features are available online:

  • access letters we have sent.
